Sunrise is the clearest choice for most locations. Popular spots like Trocadero and Bir-Hakeim are nearly empty at dawn, the light is soft and directional, and you have the space to move freely without strangers entering the frame. The trade-off is that you need a convincing reason to get your partner out early. A walk before breakfast, a morning coffee by the river, a claimed early reservation somewhere nearby. The logistics require thought.
Golden hour, the hour before sunset, is the second option. The light is warm and flattering, crowds thin compared to midday, and the atmosphere in the evening has a different quality than early morning. If your partner is not a morning person, golden hour is the practical alternative. Night sessions are also available, with the Eiffel Tower sparkling every hour after sunset, producing dramatic and cinematic results. Weekday mornings are consistently quieter than weekends across every Paris proposal location.
TipIf you choose sunrise, build a plausible reason for the early departure into your plan before you arrive in Paris. Improvising a reason on the morning of is the most common source of stress.
The right location depends on three things: the view you want in the photograph, the level of privacy you need, and how far you can realistically walk your partner before the moment. Avenue de Camoëns in the 16th arrondissement is one of the most reliable choices. It is a short, quiet residential street with a direct, unobstructed view of the Eiffel Tower framed between Haussmann facades. No competition for space, guaranteed privacy. Pont de Bir-Hakeim delivers steel columns and leading lines straight to the Tower, with a sheltered lower walkway that is nearly empty at sunrise. The Seine quays between Pont de l'Alma and Pont d'Iéna have quiet alcoves where you can be alone even in peak season.
Locations without the Eiffel Tower also work well. Luxembourg Gardens, specifically the Médicis Fountain area, has a long reflecting pool, shade, and a classical atmosphere that is nearly empty in the first hour after the garden opens. Tuileries Garden, with the Louvre in the background at the large round fountain, suits couples who prefer a classic Parisian composition without the Tower. Each location has a different energy, a different light at different hours, and a different level of foot traffic. I advise on which one fits your vision and the time you have chosen.

April, May, September, and October are the most consistently useful months. The light is warm but not harsh, crowds are manageable at popular sites, and the weather is stable enough to plan around. Spring brings clear mornings after any overnight rain, and the light at sunrise in late April has a quality that is hard to replicate at other times of year. Autumn, particularly September, gives long golden hours and a different palette in the gardens.
Summer, from late June through August, brings the longest days and the largest crowds. Sunrise is earlier, which means less time needed for the early-morning excuse, but Trocadero and Bir-Hakeim fill quickly once the day starts. Winter proposals are less common but have genuine advantages: minimal crowds at every location, low-angle winter light that is dramatic and cinematic, and a certain quiet in the city that does not exist in peak season. I work year-round. If the conditions call for a rescheduled session due to heavy weather, that reschedule is always free.

The last point is the simplest: you message me directly. If the spot is crowded unexpectedly, I know the area well enough to suggest an alternative within walking distance. The proposal itself does not need to be elaborate. The photograph needs the right light, the right position, and a photographer who is invisible. Everything else is yours.

Book at least two to four weeks out. Last-minute bookings are sometimes possible, but peak months fill quickly and golden hour slots go first. Rescheduling is always free with no deadline attached. I guide you through the portrait portion the same way I guide any couples session: clear direction, space for natural moments, no forced poses.
