I shoot over 30 locations across Paris. Sunrise at the Eiffel Tower is one of the few times you can control the experience. The light is clean. The crowds have not arrived. You get the famous view without the chaos. Here is how to plan it.
The Trocadero is nearly empty at sunrise. There will be hardly anybody here at that time. You might see one or two other photographers, perhaps a local walking a dog. But the main plaza, the side staircases, the fountain terraces, spaces that are overrun by midday, belong to you. According to Paris Je t'aime, the Champ-de-Mars is "open to the public and offers the best view of the capital's most famous monument."
The sunrise light is soft and romantic. It is directional but not harsh. The golden light bathes the tower and the city in a soft glow. The quality is different from golden hour at sunset. Morning light feels quieter. It creates depth without drama. And because the Eiffel Tower sits to the southeast of Trocadero, the sun rises in the east and can give you a dramatic shot.
If you are uncomfortable with crowds watching you pose, sunrise removes that pressure. If you are shy and don't feel comfortable taking romantic couple photos with all eyes on you, then sunrise is perfect for you. No performance. No waiting for strangers to move. Sunrise time in Paris shifts dramatically across the year. In winter the sun can rise as late as half-past eight, while in mid-summer it can rise as early as five in the morning. In May, sunrise occurs around 6am. By July, you are looking at 5:45am. In December, closer to 8am.
The best time of the year to enjoy sunrises is in Spring, around March or April, when the sun rises between 6:30 AM and 7:30 AM. This is early enough to avoid crowds but not so early that it disrupts your entire day. Spring also brings cherry blossoms in nearby areas, making it one of the best times of year for a sunrise photoshoot.
In summer, sunrise can be as early as 5:45 am, but you're rewarded with minimal crowds and the best view of the Eiffel Tower without distractions. Winter offers dramatic skies and fewer visitors, though the later sunrise means less coordination with jet lag.

The Trocadero is universally recognized as the best photo spot for Eiffel Tower images. The elevated esplanade gives you the classic frontal view. But the real advantage at sunrise is flexibility. The main plaza is empty. The side staircases are clear. There are multiple places you can view from, and you can blend two sunrise spots in one go.
I move clients through three angles during a sunrise session. The upper terrace for wide compositions. The staircases for framing with depth. The fountain level for reflections if the water is still. Because there is no one around at sunrise, you can go to different spots and take pictures that you wouldn't be able to take at any other time.
Bir-Hakeim Bridge works as a secondary location if we have time. Pont Bir-Hakeim is the place I like taking photos of the Eiffel Tower the most. The steel columns create leading lines. The covered walkway provides architectural contrast. The view is especially striking at sunrise or twilight. But Trocadero remains the priority. It is the spot that delivers the famous frame you came for.
TipThe lower terrace at Trocadero is less known but offers the cleanest background.
We meet at Trocadero 20 minutes before sunrise. I position you where the light will hit first. We shoot through the sunrise itself, then continue for 30-40 minutes after as the city wakes and the light softens further. The entire session runs one to two hours depending on your package.
You will walk. Not far, but consistently. We move between the upper terrace, the stairs, and the fountain area. I guide every angle. Where to stand. How to turn. When to pause. The goal is natural movement within a structured plan. No stiff posing. No counting down from three.
By the time we finish, the first tour groups are arriving. But you are done. The best light is captured. The empty backgrounds are secured. You leave with the Tower to yourself, at least in the photos.

Couples who want the romantic version of Paris without the performance. Sunrise removes the audience. You move through the session privately. The light is flattering. The mood is calm. Sunrise light is very special and makes your couple photo session in Paris even more romantic.
Proposals work exceptionally well at sunrise. The area around the Eiffel Tower is still quiet in the morning, so a sunrise photo session is perfect if you are looking for a more intimate experience. I position myself at a distance with a telephoto lens. The moment is private. The photos are complete. No one else watching.
Solo sessions and personal branding portraits benefit from the clean backgrounds. Families with young children sometimes prefer sunrise because the cooler temperature and quieter atmosphere keep energy manageable. For families, sunrise is the best part of the day.
TipIf you are jet-lagged from a long-haul flight, sunrise timing often works better than fighting afternoon fatigue.
Weather is the main variable. In the morning, fog often rises off the Seine River and obscures your view of the city, especially in cooler weather. Overcast mornings at sunrise can be too dark for clean images. Sunrise can be still dark in case of overcast weather. I monitor forecasts closely and will suggest rescheduling if conditions look poor.
Waking up early is harder than clients expect. If your hotel is far from Trocadero, factor in metro or taxi time. Allow plenty of time for arrival, trains can be delayed. I recommend staying within 15 minutes of the Tower if you are serious about a sunrise shoot.
Not every sunrise delivers dramatic skies. Some mornings are soft and pastel. Others are bold and saturated. Both are beautiful, but they feel different. Manage your expectations. You want to aim for a sunny sunrise to get that lovely golden light coming in, but Paris weather does not always cooperate.

Bring water and a small snack if your session is two hours. There are no open cafu00e9s at 6am. After the shoot, the nearby Rue de Passy or Avenue de Camou00ebns have breakfast spots that open around 7:30am. Plan accordingly.
TipIf you are arriving from outside Europe, book your session for day three or four of your trip, not day one. Jet lag is real.
